herd about cows
Herd About Cows is a full deck of 52 cards including an explanation card that seeks to inform the viewer about different breeds of cattle, their appearance, and uses. The front of the cards include a stylized image of the cow’s coat color and patterning which is overlayed with an outline of the facial structure of the breed. The back of the card continues the coat color as a border and includes the breed’s name, use, and a brief description for the viewer to read.
This project is about shattering the common misconception that cows are just black and white. As someone who worked on a farm and grew up with uncles who were farmers, I am familiar with the different breeds of cattle. At the same time, I know many people think of cows as only black and white animals when there are numerous different kinds of cattle. Many people also think about cows as only providing milk or beef and neglect those cows that are used for work. Threrefore, this deck of cards works to challenge the common assumptions above and educate the viewer on the different cattle breeds and their uses.
